Border wait times for cars and pedestrians

How long the line is to enter the United States at every land border crossing with Mexico and Canada, by car, in the SENTRI or NEXUS lanes, in the Ready Lane and on foot, as U.S. Customs and Border Protection posts it, and how long it usually is at each hour of the week. CBP only shows the wait right now; the history here is kept from every reading.

Mexican border: the wait right now

Entering the U.S. from Mexico. SENTRI is CBP’s trusted-traveler lane; the Ready Lane is for travelers whose documents have an RFID chip (a passport card, a border crossing card, an enhanced license). “Closed” and “Pending” mean CBP posted no wait for that lane; a blank means the crossing has no such lane. The averages leave closed hours out rather than counting them as zero.

Crossing pages

The busiest crossings each have a page: every lane’s wait right now, a heat map of the usual wait by day and hour for cars and on foot, the best time to cross, and the last week of readings.

Every reading the board has, kept for good (38,357 so far): one file per year, each reading with the time the port posted it, the wait and lanes open in each of the five lanes, and whether this site’s Worker caught it (worker) or it came from the archive that filled in the weeks before (archive). Beside it, the 30-day averages by crossing, lane, weekday and hour, and every month of averages CBP has published for these lanes.

How it works

Copied Oct 29, 2026, 10:07 PM Michigan time

At every land port, CBP officers post how long each line is, about once an hour, to the agency’s Border Wait Times site: the car lanes (standard, SENTRI or NEXUS, and Ready Lane) and the pedestrian lanes (standard and Ready Lane). It’s the best public number there is, but it’s only ever the number right now. This board keeps every reading, so it can say what a crossing is usually like on a Friday at 6 PM.

  1. A Cloudflare Worker reads CBP every half hour. The same small Worker behind the truck wait board reads CBP’s public feed (no key needed) and keeps each port’s car and pedestrian readings once, with the time the port posted them, in the port’s own clock.
  2. Each reading is kept for good. The Worker holds the last two weeks; every time the site is rebuilt they’re added to its permanent archive, CSV files in this site’s repository (below). Nothing is kept anywhere else.
  3. The record reaches back before the Worker. CBP keeps no past readings. The Worker began keeping these lanes on October 20, 2026; the readings from September 13 to then come from an independent public archive that saved CBP’s whole feed about once an hour (gptcbp/border-crossing-data), read with the same code. That archive missed some hours, so those weeks rest on fewer readings.
  4. Unknown is not zero. When lanes are closed or the update is pending, CBP posts no wait. Those are stored as blanks, not as zero minutes, and averages skip them. A lane a crossing doesn’t have is left blank too.
  5. The averages are the last 30 days. For each crossing, each lane, each day of the week and each hour, the pages show the average posted wait, once a lane has at least two days of readings. Until then they show CBP’s own published averages for October, from the year before, labeled as CBP’s.
  6. The pages are rebuilt at least once a day, so every number is in the HTML. The “right now” columns also refresh from CBP’s feed when the page opens: your browser asks CBP directly.

How to read it: Cars is the general lanes for passenger vehicles. SENTRI (on the Mexican border) and NEXUS (on the Canadian) are CBP’s trusted-traveler programs, with lanes of their own. The Ready Lane is for travelers whose every passenger carries an RFID-enabled document. Walking is the pedestrian line. The wait is CBP’s, rounded the way CBP rounds it; “no wait” is CBP’s “no delay”.
